Bringing home a new baby is one of life’s biggest adjustments. Your days become slower, your routines change, and before you know it, you’re measuring time in feedings instead of hours.
Somewhere in the middle of those first few weeks, we’ll spend an hour or two together documenting this tiny season. If you’re anything like most of my clients, you’re probably wondering if you should be doing anything to prepare.
The good news?
Not much.
As a San Antonio newborn photographer, I believe the most meaningful photographs come when parents feel relaxed enough to simply love on their baby. My job isn’t to create a perfectly posed session—it’s to preserve what these first days actually looked and felt like.
Here are a few simple ways you can prepare.

If possible, feed your baby shortly before your session begins. A full baby is often more content, but don’t worry if they need to eat again while I’m there. I always leave plenty of time for feeding breaks, diaper changes, and cuddles.
Soft neutrals, cozy textures, and timeless clothing photograph beautifully on film. The focus of your session is your family’s connection, not perfectly styled outfits. If you’re unsure what to wear, I’m always happy to help.
Please don’t spend your newborn days stressing over cleaning. I’m looking for beautiful light and meaningful spaces—not spotless countertops. A cozy bedroom, the nursery, or your living room is often all we need to create beautiful images.
Every newborn is different, and that’s exactly how it should be. Whether your little one sleeps peacefully or wants extra snuggles, I’ll work at their pace. Some of my favorite images happen in the in-between moments.
You don’t need to perform for the camera or have everything figured out. Simply hold your baby, soak in these fleeting days, and let me preserve them for you.
As a San Antonio and Boerne newborn photographer, my hope is that these photographs become a reminder of how deeply you loved your baby from the very beginning.
